So I've been in Italy for officially one day now! This morning was rough! Try as we might, we couldn't get a taxi because no one spoke english and they hung up on us twice! The people from the school and the owners of our hotel weren't that helpful :-/ But finally we got someone who spoke a little english who worked at the taxi place!! TIP: if you're in Italy and they tell you the taxi will be there in 2 mins, it means they're already outside waiting for you. Taxi's get to you fast!!! After checking in today, we took a taxi (the lady at the school called this time so it was much easier) and went to our apt! IT'S SOOOO COOL!!! Very old and charming! We're on the third floor and man is there a lot of stairs!! I'm going to have some nice buns when I come home! Forget about working out! lol. Another fun side note, our washer is in our kitchen! I have pics of my apartment on facebook if you want to see. Otherwise I'll be sending some to mom and dad soon. It's very cold in the apt though. 60 degrees and we can't turn the heat up. Anyone wanna send me my robe and some sweaters??? Good thing our room had two nice quilts in one of the closets! Kelsey and I are under them as I type.
This afternoon, Kelsey and I walked down the street and ate lunch and a pizzeria (pizza place) It was very good pizza and the waiter was very nice! He spoke english and corrected some of our Italian. We know how to say Grazie the right way (Grat-Ze-A)! We also learned you're welcome (Prego [pray-go]). After we went back to our apt and soon our final roomie Olvia arrived! Around 4:30, all three of us went to find our friend Kari's apt. That was hard and we had a sucky map, but we got it! All four of us then looked for the cinema where we're suppose to meet for orientation tomorrow...again not easy. However finding our way back was pretty simple. We all stopped to eat dinner at a restaurant. The waiter here was even nicer!! He spoke more Italian to us but that helped us understand more. I had spaghetti which consisted of noodles, and cooked tomatoes. Not quite what I expected but still good. My favorite part was the bread he gave us! He also didn't include the 2 euro service charge which was very nice. Most restaurants include a service charge so you don't have to leave them a tip if you don't want to. Also, if you want your check, you have to ask for it. I learned that when I was in France. We appologized for our lack of Italian skills and told him we're going to learn. The guy gave us his business card so I plan on going back! Some of the prices were high but it will be worth it for the service!
After dinner, we saw Kari's apartment and then Kelsey, Olivia and I headed home. I did get to have a skype date with Mitch and that made me very happy!! I miss him tons!! <3 Now I'm off to take a shower and head to bed. Gotta be up at 7am for orientation!! Night all!
