My 1st Adventure!

Well I made it to Italy no problem :) Finding a taxi was no problem at the air port. By the way if anyone is wondering, Italian drivers are crazy! Driving down the middle of two lanes, pulling out in front of each other, not using turn signals...yeah that was a fun taxi ride! We had a little trouble getting someone to open the door for us at the "hotel" (it looks more like a house from the outside), but we laughed about it and checked in. After settling in we decided that food was in order. Since none of us speak Italian, we thought this should be interesting. After walking around the VERY narrow sidewalks and darting cars, we found a little store and bought our first Italina meal. Guess what we had? Spaghetti!! Aren't we awesome? lol. Kari, Kelsey and I set down our items and gave the man our money. Funny part is that neither the other two girls and I said a word. But hey we got our food and it wasn't quite as bad as we thought it was going to be!
BUT that's not my adventure, the real adventure was trying to figure out how to use the stove!! It was a gas stove (ok no problem I've used one before) All we heard was click click click no matter now much we turned the knob. We looked for matches, tried the other burners, and came up with nothing. Good thing there are three kitchens in this place because we gathered our items, walk outside into another part of the building and tried that stove. Success!! However, getting two burners lit was a challenge. You have to press down the knob to get it to click and ignite but when you let go of the knob, the flame went out. We weren't sure if we were going to get our food or not. Finally, we got the burners lit and had our meal. Pretty good for three Americans making things up as we go along!
So maybe this adventure sounds lame to you, but you try being in a foreign country where you don't speak the language, the "front desk" people left for the evening (they don't wait around all night like they do in the States) and you have no way of asking someone how to help you with the stove. We're full, content and ready for bed. I call that a sucessful evening. :)

  1. Katie,
Glad you made it safe and sound on your first night in Italy. Those Bed & Breakfast places are always a neat place to stay. We are glad that you are all having a great time making the most of things. Sometimes last minute plans are the most fun. We looked up the place that you are at on line and it looks like a really NICE place to stay! Have FUN!!!!! Love Mom and Dad
