GERMANY Sat 4/2

Today Diana, Kari, myself and our new friend Leo all went to Neuschwanstein Castle aka the Cinderella Castle. This is the castle that Walt Disney based his Cinderella Castle off of. It was a long trek up a mountain; yes a mountain, to see the castle but totally worth it. The views of the German Alps were probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. There was a little lake near the castle that we all decided to wade into. The lake was the coldest thing ever! It was like walking into a pool of melted ice. You would literally get frost bite if you stayed in there for too long. But the water did come from the mountains so what do you expect? We all went in the water just to say we did it. And it was fun!! Cold, but one of my favorite parts of the day. Over the past two years or so, I’ve been trying to adapt this why not attitude. Meaning I’m going to trying new things just to say that I did it. That way when I’m old I can tell my kids/grandkids interesting stories of my youth. Given all of the adventures I’ve had while abroad and ever before then, I can say I’m doing pretty good. We took a tour of the castle, and I was shocked to hear that the castle was never finished. The king died before the castle was finished and no one ever decided to continue building it. So the tour wasn’t the best but the artwork on the walls was something! While waiting for our tour to begin, we saw this bridge off in the distance that was very high up. So after our tour, we decided to find the bridge and cross it ourselves. The views from the bridge were also something! I can’t get over how beautiful the mountains were! I’m still in awe.
That night Germany continued its Starkbeer festivities. We went to a different beer hall (I don’t remember the name) and boy was that place packed!! This night was the most fun I had while in Germany. I decided to continue my “when in Germany” attitude and have myself a beer. Not just any beer though. I went all out and ordered a liter of stark beer. One was enough for me. The beer hall had a live German band playing and they weren’t wearing any shoes. I thought this was cool. Maggie (the new friend we made), Diana, Kari, Leo, Amanda, and myself all were dancing, jumping, laughing and having a wonderful time. I am happy to say besides feeling very thirsty the next morning, I felt just fine. It was fun celebrating a German tradition. But I’m good only doing it once. I’m still not a beer fan and I think I’ll continue on drinking my nice mixed drinks that taste better. But hey I can now say that I did it once.
