My Official Opinion of My Classes

Everyone's been asking me how my classes are. Truthfully, I couldn't answer that question before today. The first week of school is not the week to judge whether you're going to like a certain class or not. The first week is the introductions, read the syllabus, chat about what you're going to learn yachty yadda. I believe it's the second week you should base your opinion off of. Since 4/5 of my classes are once a week and the majority are on Wednesdays, today is that day I can finally tell you about my classes.

Mon:
Italian (3-4:14) -- Hard. The professor only speaks in Italian and though it's helping me understand some, it's not completely helping me learn a ton. Also, the homework he assigns usually doesn't have to do with what we're learning in class. And EVERYTHING is in Italian. 0% English. I like the class don't get me wrong. Kari is in the class with me! We're homework buddies and boy does that help!! My class contains 8 people including me. Small, but nice because you get more one on one time. Also, I've seen some other people in my Italian class in some of my other classes. So I've made some more friends today!! My biggest worry of this class is that I'm not going to come back to the States knowing much Italian :-/ I'm working on it though! I've only had 4 classes.

Broadcasting (6-8:30) -- I'm not super sure how much I'm going to like this class. Last week it seemed interesting, this week is was boring. I think this class is going to be a hit or miss class. The professor is really nice though. He's very paternal. I'll have to give it more time to form my exact opinion

Wed:
Italian Cooking (9-11:30) -- Obviously my favorite class! Today my group made a jam tart and is was delicious!! The second group made penne and meat sauce. I'm already tired of pasta so I can't say it was the best. It was good though. A third group made 3 different types of Crostini (mushroom, spicy tomato, and sausage and cheese). I wish my group made this. I LOVED that sausage and cheese one and I want to make it! It seems pretty simple so I should be able to figure it out. I've also met a nice (and cute) guy in Italian who’s also in my group. But before everyone starts giving me winks, we're just going to stay friends. He may be from GB, but he goes to school in the south and he's not quite my type. But hey, I have a nice friend who’s nice to look at lol.

[By the way, this being single thing is actually going quite well. I've realized a lot of things over the past week and I'm enjoying Italy more and I'm actually happier. Who knew getting dumped can be a good thing! It still hurts some, but I've made tons of progress! All because of my family and friends!]

Journalism (12-2:30) --My first opinion of this class was horrible! I thought everyone in the class was stuck up preppy kids from the east coast. Proving my point to not judge on first impressions, today I loved the class! I met a girl whose really nice and I get along with well. There's also another girl in the class who has had a hard time adjusting to being abroad. I think next week I'm going to get to know her since we definitely have something in common! Maybe I can make a new friend? I get to be creative in Journalism, writing about different things. You all know I love being creative so this class should go well! It's also taught by a British professor which I found interesting. And she's worked for the BBC so that's pretty cool!

Italian again (3-4:15)

War and Media (6-8:30) -- My first opinion was this class was OMG IT'S GOING TO BE SOOO HARD!!!! Well, yes it's still going to be hard BUT I'm going to like this class. We're learning about different wars and how the media was involved. Today was a pretty interesting class. The topic of discussion has me thinking about how the media doesn't always portray stories and events like they're suppose to. Sometimes they choose to ignore the obvious facts and focus on others instead. Seeing how I'm also in a journalism class, I feel like I'm on two sides or an argument lol. Though I find this class interesting, this being my 4th class of the day, I lost steam around 7pm. But we got out half an hour early so that was nice! We'll see how my focus holds up the rest of the semester :)

So there you have it! Those are my 5 classes. A mix of hard and easy, and likes and dislikes. At least I don't hate any of my classes right now! I have Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays off, so the week isn't too bad. I'll take my all day of classes Wednesday (9am-8:30pm) for a 4.5 day weekend! Yes you can say it, I'm very lucky!

Ciao <3

  1. Katie,
Isn't it kind of interesting how clearly you can see things when the heavy fog is lifted?

You definately need to talk to the girl who is having a hard time there. She probably feels very alone and sad. You are the perfect person since you were once in those same shoes yourself. I bet you'll become good friends!! You are on you way to becoming a leader there just like you are at UWGB!!!:) OK...OK I know that takes time but a leader looks to help others and someone who is respected. I can already see that happening before my eyes and you probably don't even realIze it yet. Between your BLOG and our discussions on SKYPE...I see it well.

Glad your classes are going well. I can't wait to visit and see where they are.

Love you with all my heart, Mom :+)
