Siena

So a few days have gone by, but last Saturday (2/12) Kari and I went to Siena. Let me just say that this city, though small, is BEAUTIFUL!! The hills will take your breath away!!

However, like any other form of transportation in Florence, the bus system is confusing!! Finding the place was difficult, but getting a ticket there was very easy. Figuring how to get back was a little harder. Since Siena is so small, they don't have a main bus station, it's more of a bus pick up stand. Kari and I spent at least an hour trying to figure out how to work that machine to get a ticket (it didn't help it was all in Italian) or find a place to buy one. Thank God we found some Americans who found a place to buy tickets and told us. So getting to Siena, easy. Getting back to Florence, not so much. But we're alive!!

The bus ride only too about 1.5 hrs. Not bad. And a round trip ticket was 14 euro instead of 20 if we took the train. So we saved 6 euros. Kari and I walked around Siena and took in the sights. She also bought a very pretty blue scarf! Buying a scarf is a requirement in Europe. I've just declared it! On our walk, we found a cathedral called Bisilica Cateriniana di S. Domenico. It was really pretty, but we couldn't take any pictures of the inside. But I have pics of the outside!!

Kari and I also found a deal where you could see the Duomo, Baptista, crypt, and museum for only 10 euros! Buying everything seperate would have been soo much more! Again though we couldn't take pictures of the crypt or museum. But we did get to take pics of the Duomo and Baptista!! I have those pics posted as well. Everything was so old and it looked amazing! My favorite part was being able to climb on top of a building in the museum and take in the amazing view. The hills were gorgeous and my pictures don't do justice! The last thing we went to was the Piazza del Campo. The center of the city. There was a beautiful fountain there with very blue water.

Over all with the sites, lunch and the bus ride, the total for the trip was about 30 euros! Pretty good deal for a day trip. I also bought some postcards as my souvenirs. It was a fun day!! If any of you are in Italy, take a trip to Siena. There's not much there, but the views are amazing!
