Water? Darkness? Welcome Home!!

So today was a very interesting day for me. I ended up not having to attend my first two classes (Italian Cooking and Journalism). Instead, my Italian cooking professor scheduled a lunch for us at 12:30. The lunch took 2 hours but was totally worth it! We had 4 courses. 1) Mixed bruschette 2) potato dumplings with tomato sauce, fresh basil and ages ricotta cheese 3) Filled roast pork loin with roasted potatoes 4) broiled custard. SOOOOO YUMMMY!!! Those of you who know I do not like potatoes and refuse to eat them will fall out of your chairs when I tell you that I liked the dumplings and the roasted potatoes. So mom, learn how to make these and maybe I'll eat them! :) We had a red wine and water to drink with our meal and coffee (which is really espresso) after our meal. I did not have any coffee. I'm really glad I got to experience this and I had a great time getting to know more of my classmates.
The rest of my day went on as normal. I went to Italian and War and Media. But when I came home, I was in for a wet and dark surprise! I walk into the door seeing one roommate running around with towels in our kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom (thankfully not mine) and I see another roommate running around in a towel. Apparently our shower flooded. We've been having trouble with our shower and I'm 100% positive we have a clog. It takes over half an hour for the water to drain. Apparently Kelsey and Olivia took a shower one after another and the shower filled too much. The water wend over the edge of the shower, into the bathroom, into the kitchen and into Olivia's room. They had most of it cleaned up when I got home from class but it was an interesting thing to watch.
After the mess was cleaned up, Olivia put the towels in the wash, Kelsey went into her room, and I cooked dinner since it was 9pm and I hadn't eaten since lunch. At this point in time, I have only been home for about 20 mins. We were warned not to have too many electrical things going on at once or we'll blow a fuse. So I turned off all of lights we weren't using, warned my roomies who unplugged anything they weren't using and even still that wasn't enough. In the middle of cooking dinner, the entire apartment goes black. Ok no biggie we'll just flip the switch back on right? Nope, all of the switches were on. So now what? We have no idea how to get our power back on, and our heats off. We try contacting Iacopo (4 times) but he's not answering his phone. So I go to the apartment below us and ask the American girls there what to do. Since we couldn't find any switches that were off they had no idea either. We tried turning everything off and on and nothing worked. The entire apartment is still black. So as a final resort, I went down to find Nico who was closing up his restaurant and asked him to come and help us.
Thankfully, before we got all the way back to our apartment Kelsey found a switch outside of our apartment. It was still on but she turned it off and then back on and that worked. I thanked Nico anyways and went back to my apartment. He told me on the way to my apt that in Italy you can't have the washer and the stove going at the same time. That would have been good thing for our landlord to tell us...But no harm done. Unfortunately, the washer takes over 2 hrs to complete a cycle and I still haven't eaten dinner. Kelsey was nice enough to let me have some of her peanut butter and jelly and I had a sandwich with yogurt and nutella for dessert. Not an authentic Italian dinner, but a dinner none-the-less.
Now I have to go and ask Nico to help me find something to unclog our shower.  I know where to buy the product, but I have no idea what it's called and everything is in Italian. I'm glad I've gotten to know Nico now!! He's officially my go to guy for all of my Italian fix-it needs. Which reminds me, I should ask him where to buy light bulbs since one went out yesterday...looks like I’m going to have to buy a nice meal at his restaurant to repay the favors!!?
And as a final note, it's quite apparent that Italy continues to make my life anything but boring!!

Ciao!
