Now for the good part of my week! Earlier this week, Kelsey found our cute landlords son on Facebook. So being girls, we added him. We met Iacopo our first week here when he came over to show us how to work the washer, stove, tv etc and to make sure everything was working. The school requires them to do this. He invited us out with some of his friends on Thursday. I had my hesitations but I decided heck, I'm in Florence once, why not?
On top of that, a very cute worker from down my street asked me out for a coffee and to teach me some Italian. I've been to his restaurant twice and both times he's taught me some Italian. So as I was walking back to my apt, I ran into him outside of his restaurant. I was surprised to find out he remembered me. we struck up a conversation and then he asked me to coffee. I would have said yes, but my pants were wet from the rain and I had my laptop on me. But I told him I'd be back and I plan to. Kari and I were hoping to find a tutor so there we go! And, I'm single and decided I might as well live it up!
I was on a high from that and excited to finally meet some Italian people! My professor from school told me the only way to really learn Italian and the culture is to meet some Italians. So after Iacopo invited us all out, how can I say no to this experience? Kari, Olivia, Kelsey, Alyssa and I met Iacopo (guy in the middle of the pic), his cousin (didn't catch him name), and Iacopo's friends Lorenzo (on the left) and Paolo (on the right) at REX and local bar near our apt. And let's just say it's true, Italian men are cute. lol. After drinking some wine, we went to a few other places. Now don't worry I know my limits and when to stop drinking. I drank more at my 21st birthday and I didn’t get drunk at that.
At one bar, Paolo bought me a famous cocktail only really know in Florence called a Negroni: (gin, red martini, bitter campari, ice and garnished with an orange slice). That was a strong drink and it was ok. Paolo and I shared it so it was nice I didn't have to drink the entire strong drink by myself. I don't think I'll be having another. But hey I tried a famous drink only known in Florence. At least it's a story to tell. The girls were feeling pretty good if you know what I mean so they went home. Smart girls :) They started drinking before we went out. I ate nutella lol. Kari and I were still doing fine b/c we didn't drink as much so we went to a discotech with Lorenzo, Paolo and Iacopo. The nice thing about dancing in Europe is that it’s not all bump and grind. There’s spins and turns and dips just like in Ballroom. Getting to dance a little ballroom made my night even better! We didn't stay there long however because it was getting late and Kari and I were starting to crash and become tired. So we said goodnight to the guys and went home.
Paolo invited me and the girls out to dinner and to another discotech tonight. But I’m going to tell him maybe another time. Going out in the first place is something I don't really do, going out two times in a row, I'd rather pace myself. The other girls feel the same way.
So over all, I had a fun time meeting some Italians. I learned more about their culture and had some great conversations. I even got to use what I learned in my classes in my conversations, and I used a little Italian too. I know you're all going to, but don't worry about me. I'm a smart girl, I know my limits, and I made sure the situation I was in was safe the entire time. Mom and Dad raised me right. I didn't get drunk and I don't plan on doing it over here just like I don't plan on doing it back in the states. I like being in control of myself.
Now I have a fun story, a great experience, and I got asked out twice this week! There’s isn’t one single girl who’s going to complain about that!
