Day 1 3/3/11:
It was actually a very short day in Rome b/c we didn't actually leave Florence until 5:13pm. It was about a 4 hr train ride there and we didn't check into our hostel until around 10pm. The train ride there was quite interesting though! We all attempted to do homework...ended up taking a nap instead. lol Also, at one of the station stops, 3 police officers came aboard and stared asking random people for their passports...YIKES!! They left Ariel, Kari, Diana and myself alone thankfully. So the train got put behind schedule. I'm still not sure what they were looking for or if they even found it.
So we get off of the train, find our bearings and find the hostel. The people there were sooooo amazing! We stayed at Ape Latina. It was located literally a few mins walk from the Coliseum!! I've never met friendlier staff! They are the main reason I would recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Roma! 3 nights cost us about 45 Euros (around $65)!!! Good deal! So for our first night there, we walked through this park which was surprisingly not creepy and we walked around the Coliseum and looked at some of the ruins. The Coliseum at night is VERY pretty!! So our first night was pretty good. Long train ride but we saved a lot money traveling 4 hrs vs. 1.5 hrs. It cost 17.25 one way vs. 65!! After our little excursion, we went back to the hostel and went to bed! We had an early and busy day the next day!!
