Roma! 3/4//11

Day 2:
So today we woke up early (8:30am) and headed off to the Coliseum! We paid 12 Euros to look around the Coliseum, and look at many many Roman ruins! The Coliseum was amazing! BUT nothing like how you see it in the movies. The main floor they fight on is actually mostly gone. They took away the floor so we could see what was underneath. There were tunnels where the Gladiators lived. It was pretty cool! My favorite part was being able to touch the Coliseum! How many times do you get to touch something that's so old!

After about an hr in the Coliseum, we all walked around the Roman Ruins. We walked around an Emperor's Palace and saw many other ruins. There was also a museum on site where they stored all of the relics found around the area of the ruins. The place was huge btw!! We spent hours and walked a lot around the ruins! There was also a really cool garden in the area. After the ruins, we walked around the city some and saw some of the amazing architecture!

We also went to the Trevi Fountain! It was soooo pretty! My favorite thing of the day by far. The pictures I have are beautiful and they don't even do justice! Actually that's how it is for all of my pics. Everything is more beautiful in real life. Next we searched for a Harley Dealer (there are only 2 in Italy, both in Rome) to get shirts for mom and dad. They love them! Which is good bc there weren't a lot of choices and it was hard to find something they'd like. Now I just have to hope that they fit! The Harley Dealer was kinda hard to find, but we had a very nice taxi driver give us directions and then drive by and point us in the right direction after we got confused at a fork in the road. I think he knew we'd get confused so he drove by to see. That was very nice of him, especially since he wasn't getting paid to help us.

After the Harley Dealer, we attempted to find the Spanish Steps but we read the map (which was in Italian) wrong and found a different building. Oops. Oh well! We also found this church that Kari wanted to see which had the Ecstasy of Saint Theresa in it. The church was very pretty!

That night we ate at a restaurant near our hostel. We literally walked from the bottom of Rome to the top! Actually we went so far north, we were off our map! Go look up a map of the city of Rome to really see how far we walked! We stayed to the right side of the river today which was nice. The dinner I had has been my favorite since being in Italy. It was Bucatini with Bacon and Pecorino Cheese. I forgot the Italian name. I looked it up and it's super easy to make and oh so yummy! If you want the recipe, go here: http://www.razzledazzlerecipes.com/quickneasy/pasta/bucant.htm After dinner, we had to stop for gelato!

We walked so many miles today our feet were dead. I believe the expression we want to chop our feet was developed that day! So off to bed we were and excited to go to Vatican City the next day!!
