Day 3:
Another early start to our day. The first place we went to was the Bocca. That's what my pic is of. Legend has is that if you're a liar, and you stick your hand in his mouth, he will bit it off. Apparently way back in the day, this husband thought his wife was cheating on him. So he dared her to put her hand in the Bocca's mouth in front of the entire village. Well the wife was cheating on her husband but she didn't want to lose her hand and have it proven that she was a cheater so she came up with a plan. She convinced her lover to act like her was crazy and kiss her in public. So the wife said that she's not a cheater and the only 2 men who have kissed her were her husband and the crazy guy who just kissed her. She stuck her hand in and since she technically didn't lie, her hand was saved. Smart wife! Still a bad person lol. So that's the story of the Bocca.
Today was the day we decided to use the dang metro! We had our fair share of walking yesterday! We still did a lot today though. After the Bocca, we looked at another church we happened to pass, and saw where the Romans use to do their chariot races! Sadly all of the walls, seating etc was destroyed so it just looks like a track now. But it was still cool to see and to look at a place where so many people died. To think you could walk down there! We didn't walk down there bc we were on our way to the metro to go to our tour of the Vatican but it was still neat to walk by.
On our way to Vatican City, we stopped at the actual Spanish Steps! There are a lot of steps!! In the pics you can't even see the street from the top of the steps!! It was neat to see but nothing super exciting. I'm not entirely sure why these are famous in the first place. But it is so we went there lol. Also on our way to Vatican City, we happened upon the Roman Carnival. It wasn't anything big, but there were horses and they were doing some riding shows. It was pretty cool. And the girls and I loved taking pics of the pretty horses!
Next up was Vatican City. Actually it's the world smallest country, population 500 and it's the last actually monarchy in the world! What the Pope says goes and no one say out rule him! It was pretty cool to be in a different country! It was also cool to say I walked to another country lol. We paid for a 3 hr walking tour of Vatican City seeing the museum, the Raphael Rooms, St. Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel! It cost 54 Euros ($75) but so worth it! My favorite part was the Sistine Chapel! So many pretty paintings to look at! We weren't suppose to take pics in there, but Kari may or may not have taken some ;)
After the Vatican it was late so we walked back to the hostel and then headed for dinner. I had spaghetti with beef and the best wine I've ever had! YUM. I didn't think I'd start to like wine (even living in Italy) but I really like it now! But I like white wine that's a bit sweet. I'm not a big fan of red. There is one that I liked but that's about it. After dinner, it was back to the hostel for some more well needed rest!
